Overwater House is an ordinary looking bungalow with a huge secret. At the back, on the sea side, we have installed full height windows. The large lounge is dominated by these windows, including a side window which has a long window seat: the best seat in the house. The mid-century Ercol table is perfectly positioned for a leisurely evening meal whilst watching the spectacular sunsets. The settee, a four seater is feather filled and squidgy, perfect for serious down time, or, there are armchairs, should you prefer. The log burning stove is ideal for cooler summer evenings or short winter days, ample logs ensure you’ll be cosy whatever the weather. The tv has plenty of channels, including sport and film channels or there are books aplenty to browse through. Throughout the house hard wood, bamboo flooring is softened by ample wool rugs. Unfortunately, none of the current pictures capture the size of the rooms. ( To be remedied shortly ! )
The large, dining kitchen has another full height window. The table, here, is perfect for breakfasts. A door, leads out onto a very large are of decking, complete with chairs and table. There is also another decked seating area to the side of the house which is slightly more sheltered on breezy days.
The kitchen is well-equipped with dishwasher, double oven, fridge freezer, washing machine & microwave. Apologies that we don’t have great pics of the kitchen, yet, as part of it is currently being re-fitted.
The large bedroom is again on the sea side of the house. There is a king sized bed made up with crisp, Egyptian cotton sheets. There is a full room width of wardrobes, so no tripping over your luggage here. A personal touch in this room is a collection of quirky textile art pictures. Again there are plants and pots and beloved vases.
The spacious ensuite has a powerful drench shower within a large enclosure. There is also a bath for those days when only a good soak will do. The sink & wc are within fitted units, again with ample storage. And, of course, the plentiful artwork continues through to the bathroom.
There are gardens front & back. We prefer to leave the back, beyond the deck pretty wild to blend in with the croftland beyond. A privacy fence obscures Blue Moon Studio, our successful, purpose built holiday home from the main house.
In the lounge there are plenty of maps & information guides to help you plan your day. We live five minutes away in Stein, and although we never disturb our guests we are always available for help or advice. In the unlikely event that we are away we have a network of friends who would be happy to help. We are temporarily living in our son’s house managing a large renovation project. We are enjoying the challenge but miss our wonderful views.
